My dad just bought me this on ebay, after I tried to steal one from their house that he got for himself. It's a beautiful vintage 1950's pencil sharpener from Boston. Works incredibly well. I've wanted one of these since I was a kid. I need to screw it down to something but can't decide the best place for it. I'm going to get an electric one someday....

You asked me once if all my students use laptops here in the US, but America is strangely old-fashioned in some ways. They don't use laptops in the classroom, they don't even use pens, they all use pencils. And there is one of those sharpeners mounted on the wall in every corridor. Even stranger--here, 2H is the HB.
No doubt someone right now is patenting a 'sustainable' version, i.e all the sharpened lead bits left over are channelled into a Heath-Robinson machine that then produces another lead, while the little wood parings are put on the compost heap and a Redwood tree grows over the next 120 years.
