Hail V Freezing Rain

Small illustration I did for Scholastic SuperScience Magazine based on the question sent in:

Q:What is the difference between hail and freezing rain?

Synth Eastwood Tonight

Home Maid decommissioned and recycled as a lamp.

The lads getting the place ready.

I stayed up very late working on the various parts for our Home Maid for tonight's Synth Eastwood. I was in Film Base this morning setting it up and making sure it was working properly. It was the first time the whole thing had been assembled so I was delighted when it all came together. I was standing beside him just after I finished him and a swear he was looking at me out of the corner of his eyes and when I turned to look at them they whipped back looking straight ahead...

It was all go this morning and there was tons of amazing work coming in. It's going to be a brilliant night I reckon. See you there if you're there!

I'll post some photos from the night on Monday.

Kerry Bicycle Festival

I completely forgot to post about the Kerry Bicycle Festival! There's a group exhibition called Frame as part of it, I have this painting in it. It opened last Saturday and finishes tomorrow so if you're in that neck of the woods stick your head in sounds like it's a great show.

Synth Eastwood

If you in Duberlin this Friday I highly recommend dropping in to Film base for the launch of the new Synth Eastwood night (Home Made) which follows on over to the Button Factory afterward. There's a whole host of art and performances happening and it's always fantastic fun. Click here to find out more about the event.

Myself and Cliona have teamed up to create a Home Maid Lamp using mostly stuff we bought in Homebase at the weekend. We have him sprayed blue and most of the bits made so hopefully he'll look something like the sketch I drew.

See you there if you're there!

More Brush app messing

Here's a few more brush app images made on the iPhone over the last few days while terribly bored lying on the floor with a bad back from lifting a big stupid radiator the wrong way. Still learning but I wish I knew how to get these effects with real paint. Damn you real paint. Also, damn you bad back.

New Flickr Set

I've just uploaded a new set of photos onto Flickr of a bunch of photos of my work out in the real world rather than hidden away as ones and zeros on my hard drive and tucked away in my studio. Whenever I see anything I've worked on out and about I try and get a photo for prosperity so I thought it would be nice to gather what I could find and share them on Flickr. I'll keep adding to them as I go.

Appassionata Flowers

This is a lovely project I worked on with Ruth and Ultan in Appassionata Flowers over the last few months. They recently started using this electric Megavan for their deliveries around Dublin which is totally carbon free and rechargable (and I want one).

They approached me to design the exterior so we tried out a few different ideas until we arrived at this one and they got their designers Atelier to overlay the nice text. I only just saw the finished project the other day as it whizzed past so I'm really chuffed with how it's turned out. Thanks to Ultan for the photo.

I'll post some more photos of it in action next time I see it out and about.

California Sketchbook

My good pals over at Scamp have kindly posted a selection of pages from a sketch book I kept while travelling around California at the beginning of the month. I took a bazillion photos and drew loads of pictures but these are probably the best from the sketchbook. There's loads of terrible drawn-on-wobbly-knee-in-car images that I've spared you from seeing.

Click here to see the full post and all the images.

Worklife

A cover illustration for Work & Life Magazine for impact.ie I worked on a few weeks ago. Just received a copy of the magazine. This was a fun one to work on, the wooden texture is a scan of my own wooden chopping block so it's very authentic, what?

Apologies for the dodgy photo of the cover...

Great Days Out

I worked on an illustration with my London agent Folio a few weeks back for the Evening Standard supplement Great Days Out that was printed last Saturday in the UK for the Easter weekend. I didn't get to see the printed version but here's the artwork itself.

Mash Up Photos

My Guy before

My guy after make over

Bren's guy post make over

Scalder at work

Des's artwork

Dave's work

Here's a few photos from the Mash Up drawing fest on Sunday night. There were five 8x4 foot boards nailed to wall all sparkly white so we took one each and drew an initial central character and then moved to each board and filled in the rest, adding to and destroying each others artwork. Great fun indeed. They all turned out really nice.

Apologies for the dodgy photos it was really dark and there was dry ice being pumped out constantly to add to the atmos as the kids say.

Oh yeah and Donal Dineen was playing the whole time we drew which was ace!

Easter Sunday Mash Up

Doing some live drawing with Bren B, Steve Doogan, Scalder, Joven and other great illustrators tomorrow night in Twisted Pepper as part of a mini festival if you're in the fair city and looking for some japes. Click the image to see what's going on during the night and what it's all about.

I think I might have terrible jetlag but.

Hello from LA

I'm on my holidays in Ameriky and we're currently in LA which is a very strange place indeed. Very hard to get ones head around it. It involves a lot of driving around from one place to the other as everything is spread out miles apart. Very interesting though and I've been taking tons of photos and keeping a sketch book of all the amazing freaks we've been observing. I'll post a selection of them here when I get home.

We're off to Yosemite tomorrow (which should be a perfect place for the Beasts to hang out) and then back to Oakland. Here's a Beast hangin' out in LA.

See you next week!
